Nice item March 15, 2010 leffingw 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased 5 sets of these tins to contain my assortment of spices.
Of course, I washed them after I removed them from the packaging, but I was surprised to find that there was a layer of grime on all of them. It was easily removed with dish soap, but make sure that you wash thoroughly.
I handwashed each one because the heat of the dishwasher can damage magnets. The base magnets are glued onto the bottom of each tin. Some of the magnets are not dead-center on the base, and some are not as strong as the others. Only one spice slides down the wall, but it is the heaviest spice that I have, so I made other arrangements for it.
The acrylic windows on the lids were slightly scratched from shipping/packaging, but probably not enough for a bystander to notice. The windows are sealed into the lid with what appears to be silicone.
Although the seal between the lid and base is not airtight, it seems to be adequate, as nothing leaks out of the containers while they hang on the side of my refrigerator.
On whole, I am very happy with this set. Now I have everything within arm's reach. I no longer have to dig through a drawer or reach to the back of a cabinet for spices that I use less frequently. They also look very nice attached to the side of my fridge. Great value.
You get what you pay for March 14, 2010 shopper (chicago, il) I had a set of nice (well made) spice containers already, and was looking to add to the collection without spending a lot of money. These worked, in that they look a lot like the ones I already have and were cheap. However, they are nowhere near the quality of the other ones I have. The magnet is not as strong; the seal is not very good (the metal lid rests right on the metal base without a seal ring); a couple of the lids were cracked (although this may have been caused by me running them through the dishwasher); and one of the bases was missing a hole to shake out the spice. They look good though!
Spice cans February 21, 2010 Randy (Maricopa) These were exactly what my wife wanted and were half what everyone else was asking. They arrived fast and in great packaging.
excellent deal; practical choice February 9, 2010 K. A. Jepson (monterey peninsula, california) As everyone before me has mentioned, this set is the best deal for stainless steel herb canisters on Amazon. I bought 8 sets (49 canisters) to help reinvent my chaotic and hard-to-close spice drawer, which is now easy to use and handsome to boot. The canisters are sleek and easy to use. The see-through lids present the beauty of the herbs and spices contained within. I labeled mine with a "paint pen," the markings of which can be gently scraped off and renewed when necessary. The canisters are not airtight; then again, I've never found an airtight herb and spice canister - even the ones with the rubber or silicon seals don't prevent herbs and spices from absorbing moisture. Herbs and spices are best bought in bulk in small quantities, with any unused portion replaced after six months or so.
Great Product! January 24, 2010 James H. Galligan 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I saw similar spice decanters in a magazine, at a higher cost. I bought these for Christmas for my daughter and daughter-in-law. I also purchased 2 baking sheets to hold them on even though they come with there own rack. The girls are able to hang the sheet with the decanters on their walls, freeing up counter space and cabinet space. They both grow their own herbs, so they dry them and put them in the decanters. My daughter told me last night thatt everyone that comes into her house comments on how cool they look on her wall. Don't forget to get the labels.
