Cool container, lame spices March 5, 2010 Jen B (Los Angeles, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this spice rack since I needed spices but didn't have room in the cabinet. The container for it is great, nice looking. But the spices given are a joke for the most part. Some of the things I have never even heard of. Also, how can a spice rack not even include cinnamon or cumin or cayenne or red pepper flakes? They put some odd things in there. So, I just emptied the containers and added my own. I went to the craft store and bought stick-on labels and re-labeled all the spices so they look uniform. Bottom line- buy it for looks and then use your own in their containers, the spices provided are not very useful in everyday cooking...at least not in my house.
Great spice rack, with free spices for 5 years! December 30, 2009 Teresa Preston (Rochester, NY) I've had one of these for about 6 months, and just gave one to my sister as a Christmas gift. She's not exactly a gourmet chef, so she wasn't overly concerned about how old the spices were. It looks great on her counter, it keeps her organized, and it came with an order form for FREE spices from the manufacturer for the next 5 years. You really can't beat it for the price.
Beautiful and functional October 11, 2009 anon (Silicon Valley) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My daughter had this on her kitchen counter and I fell in love at first sight. I needed a spice rack and this one really is gorgeous. I love the fact that you get free refills on the spices too. Great product.
Kamenstein Revolving Spice Tower October 3, 2009 Charlie Scott (Sacramento, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was a wedding gift, chosen because it looked almost like the model on the couple's William-Sonoma registry. If it was NOT exactly the same as the one featured in William-Sonoma's, the differences were not apparent. The spice rack was available only through on-line sales. William-Sonoma's shippiing charges were much too high ... Amazon shipped for FREE and rather quickly!
Design good, spices not so good October 21, 2006 Fanshawe (SC, USA) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
I have been wanting a revolving spice rack for a while now, since my spice cupboard was overflowing and I wanted to organize them a little better near my cooking space. With this in mind, I went to my local Bed Bath and Beyond to check out their offerings. I liked the design of this, and after looking at the display model and saw what spices were included decided to go ahead and purchase.
When I brought it home, I noticed that the spices pictured on the box and on the display model were NOT what was included in my box. This wasn't a huge deal, since I have most of these spices anyway, but somewhat annoying. For example, one that I assumed by the box would be included was whole allspice, which is a fairly pricey spice. Not here.
Another annoyance was that the labels on the box and display model were more attractive than the huge, san serif block letters on the tops of the jars that I received. A little thing, maybe, but irritating to me. When looking at the material that came in the box, there was a disclaimer that the spices included may vary from the image on the box. Fair enough, but why did the display model include them?
Another downside was that the spices I did get were not very fresh. I chucked some of them and replaced with what I already had on hand. Any time you buy something like this, of course you are going to get spices you don't use. But for them to be stale is pretty bad. Basically I ended up tossing or replacing quite a few of the spices on the rack, since several of them I don't consider "everyday use" spices. Caraway seed, mustard seed, savory? But not cinnamon, cumin or sage. Pizza seasoning AND Italian seasoning? Seems kind of redundant. It would be helpful if the manufacturer included replacement labels with other spices so that you could customize the jars to your liking. Or better yet, a few empty jars!
Perhaps I'm being overly picky, but I wish I could have gotten a version with no spices at all that I could just fill myself with what I actually use. Maybe it's me, but I think these type of things need to be functional as well as attractive.
Aside from all this, the rack is quite nice in design. I like the size and the shape of the jars, and the stainless steel looks nice in my kitchen. It seems as though it will be easier to clean than many of the others I've looked at.
I think it will serve its purpose well, once I finish customizing it.
