5 out of 5 stars Seems insulated well and is light and durable   December 1, 2008
T. Nolte
Ive had no problems with the Thermos. Its lighter than an all-metal can and more durable than the old-school glass types.
I have had the thermos for several years and have not noted the metal/plastic separation noted by another reviewer.
The plastic on mine is scuffed and scraped from being thrown around and generally abused while camping but it seems to be holding up well.

Also I can confirm as well that it does indeed float even when full.

EDIT (12/22/08):
Since I've written this review they have (judging by the product picture) actually changed the design of the thermos at least a little bit.

Since I dont have the newer design I obviously cant comment on how much, if any, the functionality of the bottle has changed.

My bottle is about the same color overall but has a lighter grey ring near the top instead of a blue ring. The plastic around the bottom of the newer bottle also appears to be thicker than mine, which is actually just about the same thickness as the top part.

4 out of 5 stars Good Overall Thermos Bottle   October 17, 2008

Very good overall thermos. It will keep water chilled for over 24 hours when ice is added. The outer casing and cup is very durable plastic. The only down side for this thermos is the mouth opening is only about 1.5 in. in diameter. This makes adding ice a little more difficult.

3 out of 5 stars Not Built as Well as It Should Be   May 9, 2008

I purchased this thermos a few years ago because I loved the idea of having a Thermos that can not only be used in the office but also on camping and river trips because it floats. It keeps liquid quite hot, especially if you temper (pre-heat it with hot water), but the problem is that the thermos bottle is simply screwed-into the plastic outer case and there's a little glue at the bottom that holds it all together. If you use it alot (like I do ) the glue will break down, and everytime you try to unscrew the stopper from the top, the whole metal bottle will unscrew from the plastic housing from the force of unscrewing the stopper instead of the stopper coming unscrewed. I've tried to glue it back with a variety of glues (including Gorilla Glue, but it only lasts for a short time). Also, when you fill the Thermos, a little water can pass between the metal bottle and the clamp ring that holds the bottle in the plastic housing. This little water sitting in the plastic housing can just sit there and grow bacteria as well as react with the metal part of the thermos. Thermos could easily fix these issues. I am a little disappointed with the quality, and am not surprised since Thermos now makes everything in China instead of the USA. I am let down by Thermos and have decided to buy Stanley Brand Thermoses because they stand behind their products with a lifetime guarantee and if something like this ever happens with a Stanley, I know they will replace it.

5 out of 5 stars Does the job!   May 7, 2007

The tag on the bottle said it could keep contents cold or hot for 24 hours. I filled it with hot coffee on Saturday morning at 11:30, and Sunday morning at 7 a.m., while not "piping" hot, the coffee was plenty hot enough to enjoy. I left the bottle unprotected from the very windy and cold (low 30's) night, so I am quite satisfied. A great product for camping.
