The Toddy Maker is a simple device that uses cold water and a carefully designed filter system to produce an exceptionally pure coffee concentrate from ground coffee. The advantages of coffee brewed with the Toddy Maker make it a popular choice among both individuals and the food service industry. Cold water brewing extracts the desirable flavor elements, but eliminates many of the undesirable oils and acids found in hot brewed coffee that are not soluble at low temperatures. Cold brewed coffee tastes smoother and is easier on the stomach. Toddy coffee has been recommended by doctors to their patients who are sensitive to the acid in hot brewed coffee. The original Toddy Maker consists of a plastic brewing container with a plug and filter at the bottom. One pound of regular grind coffee and nine cups of cold water are added and allowed to steep for eight to twelve hours. The plug is then removed and the resulting concentrate is allowed to drain through the filter into a glass carafe which is also provided. The grounds are then disposed of (they make good compost) and the filter rinsed thoroughly. The concentrate must be refrigerated. To make a cup of hot coffee simply mix one part concentrate with three parts water and heat in the microwave. To make iced coffee mix one part concentrate with three parts water and serve over ice. The concentrate is good for about three weeks in the refrigerator, and can be frozen for several months

I bought a toddy maker in hopes of saving money on fancy beverages, and reducing the acid that tears up my stomach. Here are some random thoughts and suggestions:
1. Although 9 cups of water are used, I only get 4+ cups of finished product. I adjusted to coarseness of the grind in hopes of getting more. Didn't work. However, if the grind is too fine the whole contraption gets constipated!
2. I let it sit longer than the required 12 hours. I figured that having a fairly coarse grind might balance things out. Didn't seem to cause any harm.
3. Keeps longer than what the booklet says...unless you consume it in record amounts like my family.
4. Grind the coffee and use it right away. Also, try different beans. I didn't care for French roast.
5. My blueberry bushes were very happy to get the leftover grounds.

This cold brew system is super easy to use and makes an outstanding cup of coffee. 12 hour brew time is a pain but the convenience of the concentrated coffee makes up for it.

I've never heard of the Toddy system before until a friend recently made me a cold iced coffee latte - and it was absolutely wonderful!! I couldn't believe how delicious it was! I was sold on the Toddy. I immediately got online and ordered a Toddy for myself! I coarsely grind a pound of good coffee beans (Seattle's Best, Starbucks, etc) cold brew it for 12 hrs overnight and - voila! Makes the best concentrated coffee ever!! Also great for expresso drinks, hot coffee - you can add as much boiling water or as little you want, depending on your taste if you like strong robust or med/mild coffee. There is also a wonderful variety of flavoring syrups you can experiment with. I just made some White Russians recently - which were out of this world! There is a lot less acid in the cold-brewed coffee so I can actually enjoy extra cups without worrying about my acid reflux kicking in. If I had realized the Toddy system has actually been around for like - 40 years - I would have bought one long before now!!

It's wonderful, I love it. I use it for my morning coffee all week and an occasional ice coffee. I have almost no waste. I'm very glad I bought it.

Best for taste and improving caffeine content. I get heartburn often and this product makes a low acid concentrate. It is so convenient to just make it once a week and use as needed in whatever strength I want. It is great for company because everyone gets their coffee the way they want.
