Not up to par, and warentee not upheld November 29, 2008 Eagle_Lady1 (TX) First I want to say that I purchased this item through a link that took me directly to the JackLaLanne sight to purchase this product - not Amazon -- I will never do that again, at least with Amazon there is more accountability for sellers to back their word. I purchased this item a little over a year ago, and paid the extra $15 for a 3 yr warrente that guarenteed replacement if anything wrong. It was advertized as guarenteed not to rust as all metal parts were 100% stainless steel. It came with absolutly no paperwork!! I was very glad that I had saved the email confirmation receipt as later I needed it. Everything was fine for about the first 6-8 months. The pitcher is plastic, not glass as I would have expected for the price. The markings on the lid wore off and after about a year both the bottom of the pitcher and where it connected to the motor base, began to show signs of rust. It got increasingly worse. After several attempts I was able to get find a phone number for Customer Service. When I spoke to customer service, they assured me a "free" replacement would be shipped out within 48 hours of their receipt of the defective one. They only take returns shipped to a PO Box, which means you can't use UPS or FedEx - you have to use the Post Office which is very expensive to ship something that heavy. Depending on if I wanted to send it Parcel Post or Priority mail the cost was between $24 and $30, plus I had to include another $19.99 for them to ship the "free" replacement to me.check Between the extra $15 I paid for the warrentee, $27 to ship the bad one to them and the $19.99 for them to ship me a "free" replacement -- I had invested over $60 for what should have been a free replacement since it was not as advertized that all metal parts 100% stainless steel". Taking this as a lesson learned, I bit the bullet and shipped it back, rationalizing that It would cost me about $60 to replace it with a good blender. Low and behold -- 3 weeks go buy and I have no replacemnt, no notice of shipment or delay of shipment. Their phone lines seems to not work properly as rather than place me on hold as the prompts mentioned, it disconnect me -- this went on for about a week. Finally I did get through -- they were not sending me a replcement: They instead refunded my closed credit card - and only for the amount of the item -- not all the shipping, nor the cost of the warrentee.
Very Poor Blender November 23, 2008 Miss Riss (Rover, wanderer, nomad, vagabond - mostly TX and AZ though ;-D) Who doesn't love Jack LaLanne? Unfortunately, as much as I wanted this one-third-of-the-price version of the Vita-Mix Blender to be equal in it's value to my kitchen and my health, there is simply no comparison. Here are my problems with the Jack LaLanne blender: 1)Turning knob and associated ball bearing fall off repeatedly. This being on THREE blender bases they have sent me, the second two to replace the first. I finally decided to forget it and just deal with turning the metal projection instead of using the knob which should be located over it since the problem persisted with the new blenders anyway. What a waste of goods and resources! 2)Liquid leaks through the bottom of the blender cup. 3)There is a chemical taste and smell in the bottom of the blender, imparting a funky flavor into many of my recipes. Are they putting some kind of antimicrobial in there??? Yuck! 4)METAL SHAVINGS from the base where the blender bottom fits into the motor socket. 5)Metal shavings combine with the water that has leaked through, creating an ICKY brown liquid all over the top of the motor base and on my counter tops. Although it doesn't make as smooth a puree as a Vita-Mix, it does blend very well - if you don't mind brown, murky water all over your kitchen counters from setting the blender cup down anywhere. I really recommend people bit the bullet and just go for the VitaMix, or just stick with a cheapie that has an ice crushing feature.
this review updated and changed to one star August 4, 2008 nylady (west hempstead, ny United States) Dont get me wrong the vitamix is still on my want list. However for the money this machine is fantastic. Ive been using this blender for over six months. I make smoothies everyday..make nut butters, nut milks, pack it with frozen fruit and no lumps whatsoever. I was nervous at first because a few people said they had leaks but so far so good..no problems..i love it! Its a great starter blender for those starting raw or are budget conscience. update/ i so loved this blender until i had the dreaded problem that everyone else had. The bearings stripped and broke and i had smoothie all over the kitchen..i guess you get what you pay for..im going for the vitamix
Not that great July 31, 2008 A. Goins (USA) 2 things. Don't grind dificult things in this grinder. Do not grind salt and do not make nut butters. It seemed to do fine with raw peanuts (although I had to be very strategic about them). But it seems like sunflowers are just too much. I just got it back from breaking down on me and it's broken again, a few days later. I hate this blender! I don't wanna be fully unfair it's good for normal stuff and grain flours (oats & millet). But forget the heavy duty stuff. This is NOT a heavy duty blender. NO nut butters. It just can't take it. It doesn't grind rice very well either.
Bearing failed July 30, 2008 M. Tank The picture bearings failed after six months of normal (less than once a day) use. This blender has a lot of power, but the picture bearing are inferior for this kind of speed.
