excellent kettle January 5, 2009 M. K. Foley (Prospect Heights, IL USA) Well made and durable, I've had this kettle for about 2 years now and use it mutiple times a day. It's held up well and heats water quickly. I like the auto shut off, which works just fine. I've used electric kettles for over 20 years and this one is my favorite so far. I expect to get many years of use from it. All in all, I highly recommend it.
Great Gift December 31, 2008 Emsan (New York, NY) We gave this kettle to my father-in-law for his birthday (he's been forgetful with regular kettles on the stovetop)who enjoys hot and iced tea regularly. They really love it, heats up fast and SAFE! Great price and looks nice on the counter. They have had no problems and use the item multiple times a day for 7 months now.
Warning to all who want a non-plastic-y kettle October 26, 2008 J. Wang 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Hi, If you are like me and is considering purchasing this product so you don't boil water in any sort of plastic container, then beware: Though this kettle is entirely stainless steel on the inside as well as the outside, there are two little holes on the inside, near the handle, where the water goes through for the water indicator. Unfortunately, these two holes are insulated (waterproofed) with some sort of rubber/soft plastic substance, and the water indicator itself is made out of plastic rather than glass. Besides that, this kettle does its job very well and I think most of the other reviews already pointed out the goodness and flaws of it.
Nice electric kettle August 20, 2008 Gantzi (CA, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I like: - The stainless still design - Boils the water quickly - Round base - easy put back on base from any direction I don't like: - The cover cannot be detached - inconvenient to fill water or clean - The water level indicator is behind the handle - difficult to see Summary: Does the job very well and also looks good, slightly inconvenient to fill and clean.
Long time tea drinker August 10, 2008 An engineer (Orange County California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got the Model 677 about 2 months ago as a replacement for a similar item received as a gift several years ago. This kettle makes hot water just fine - very happy with that part. It is also the right size, and capacity. The issue with it is the lid. There is no reason to have an attached button actuated lid. That one feature obstructs cleaning the inside, and provides opportunity for breakage. Breakage either due to mechanical failure or accident seems almost certain. The "old" kettle had a removable lid -- perfect! I strongly recommend Chef Choice produce this with a removable lid, with the same size opening as the model 677, or larger. The other problem with the lid is that my wife cannot hold the pot under the faucet because of a shoulder / arm problem. She must sit it down fill it, then lift with both hands. The lid does not open far enough to do this. It would have to open at least 90 degrees, and that would be a problem for many sinks. So the simple and correct solution is removable lid! One last item, as others have noted in their reviews, the level indicator is hard to read. It easy to read on the old model (Toastess I believe it was).
