2 out of 5 stars Disappointing   December 9, 2008

I purchased this as a package with a full set of coffee and tea pods.
I like the convenience of just making one cup of coffee.
The tea is terrible and I ended up throwing those away entirely. The melitta javapod coffee is just so-so, but my daughter liked the hazelnuts and french kisses. I purchased other maker coffee pods that were much better and we happily used this machine for almost one year. Unfortunately it started leaking and we were unable to find a replacement spout - which was where it was leaking from. Since my daughter liked the machine so much I decided to buy another for her birthday - I found a good deal for the new model - which is MUCH easier to fill. Unfortunately after only 3 months of use it no longer works - the coffee just comes out watery and she is using the 5oz setting. I have not been able to get any answers from anyone on a way to fix this other than to replace the machine AGAIN. I cannot bring myself to buy another Melitta. I like the Keurig very much but it is a little out of my price range. A friend who has the Senseo is very happy with it.

4 out of 5 stars Personally, I'm a fan.   November 29, 2008

I know there are a lot of complaints against the Melitta (believe me, i read all the reviews before deciding which pod brewer to purchase), but it really is my favorite for the price range. I've found that it'll take just about anything i can cram in that little pod holder from loose leaf tea to senseo pods, to tea bags. Honestly i bought one bag of melitta pods and haven't bought any more-i think they brew a pretty gross cuppa, but this machine is quite the trooper!

I've used it faithfully every morning for almost a year now and have never seen the problems i've read of others, like the leaking and whatnot. Every once and a while it will drip from the top there, but that's only when i don't cram a teabag in properly and the edges stick out and break the seal so really it's my own fault.

It also makes the shallow side come out in me because it is just so much more attractive than any other pod brewer on the market. It has such a sleek modern style that makes the senseo look like a hunched over grandma, or as if its owner decided that an oven was the best place for storage. It heats up fast, brews a decent cup of coffee (or tea), and looks good while doing it! What's not to love?

5 out of 5 stars Great machine   November 14, 2008

I love my Melitta pod machine. You can use any pod coffee, not just Melitta. The Senseo pods fit in it just fine. Remember that you need to make sure the pod is not hanging over the edge of the pod holder. The machine works great.

4 out of 5 stars Nice   September 30, 2008

Very nice. Small, very useful, and inexpensive. Could do a better job insulating water though. Leaks just a bit, but not a big deal. Highly recommended.

I like this coffeemaker a lot, but there are a couple of points to know about. (1) it spits coffee onto the counter, even with the spout in the lowest position (Melitta's solution to this problem); (2) the water container is pretty flimsy and I expect the lid to break sooner than I would like; (3) you have to learn how to get the water container seated exactly right and it's a little tricky. if you don't, the machine freaks out and won't brew even when the water is in the right position. when this happened to me I unplugged the unit for a while, and then it worked again. The customer service email in the booklet bounced back (of course), so I would have had to call if I couldn't fix it. That said, I like it and it's a decent single serve coffee maker. The coffee is almost hot enough and the taste is ok, but there isn't much choice in this type of coffee maker and I am happy with mine.
