Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Oliso Touch & Glide Iron will literally stand on its own two feet all by itself. When the iron is released, the Auto-Lift feature with Smart Touch handle automatically deploys spacers from the nonstick aluminum sole plate. The spacers lift the iron up if it is sitting on its sole plate to prevent burns on clothing or ironing surfaces. Then, when your hand touches the Smart Touch handle, the spacers automatically retract. Its the best way yet to prevent accidental burns and to reduce the fire hazard posed by inadvertently leaving an iron on. Plus, the auto shut-off system automatically turns the iron off when it falls over or sits too long without being used. The Auto-Touch system can be disable to prevent the spacer feet from deploying every time without losing the Auto-Life protection feature. If the sole plate is left lying for 30 seconds the spacers will still deploy to prevent ruining fabrics and clothes. Water tank Flip Funnel - Easily fill the water tank while Touch & Glide iron remains in the horizontal position Fabric selector - set proper temperature for fabric Flow Glide soleplate - non-stick surface glides effortlessly over fabrics 1440 watt heater Digital thermostat control 8.5 feet cord Fill cup

1 out of 5 stars Not a good investment   November 25, 2008

I received this Oliso iron as a gift, and only used it occasionally. I had it just over a year, when the heating element died. After reading so many complaints about this iron, I knew it would just break again if I got it repaired. I still had my old Rowenta iron which I used for over 5 years, and it still works great. I knew that the Oliso was no longer under warranty, so I called their customer service to see if they would recycle it, since I no longer needed it. Although the csr was very polite, the answer I got was very disconcerting. I was told that an additional 5 year warranty to replace the Oliso was $29.95, but they do not recycle broken irons and I was instructed "to just toss it." I would have been happy to send it back to them and I'm sure that they could have reused the parts. Aside from the heating element not working, it is in perfect condition. And, no, I'm not going "to just toss it" so it can sit in a landfill for the next 100 years. Eventually, Oliso is going to have to figure out a recycling program, because they are making a questionable product. I wonder how many Olsio irons do end up in the garbage. For the price of this iron, I would recommend investing in Rowenta. They are a reliable company.

2 out of 5 stars Does not last !!!!   September 4, 2008

I bought this iron about 10 months ago and paid $129.00 for it. I am a quiter and it was perfect for my needs. Loved the lifting mechanism and the amount of steam it put out. When I bought this iron, I expected a few years of use for the amount of money I spent on it. It died!!!! Stopped heating. Going out to buy a Rowenta.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money   August 8, 2008

I have a retreat facility and I also teach quilting, and in the last 8 months, I've purchased 8 of these irons for classes. So far 6 have had to be returned. Some lasted for a few months, some only a few hours. First they would stop going up/down, then they'd stop heating. Nothing unusual about the way they were used. When I returned the first 4, the company replaced them quite happily, and said something had been 'revamped' and the replacements wouldn't give me any problems. After 1 month, 2 of the replacements have died. I'm down to my last 2 and I've had it with these.
It's too bad, because, while they were actually working, I loved them!

5 out of 5 stars Great Quilting Iron!! Even My Hubby Likes It!!   July 23, 2008

Got this iron (non-stick sole plate) over two years ago. Have used it every day and love it. The "feet" have saved me from burning myself, and less strain on my hands and wrists - very important when you're ironing as much fabric as I do!

Only problem recently has been that my hubby lets the water resevoir run low and then the steam button sticks in the "down" position. He uses it every day too!

Like any appliance using water - ALWAYS use bottled NOT tap water - they will last longer and are much less likely to break sue to sediment build up.

Even with the steam button sticking occasionally - given how long I've had it and how hard it is used, this definitely rates 5 stars.
