Lightweight and inexpensive yet solidly constructed, the Eureka 4711AZ Maxima offers an excellent value in a full-size upright vacuum. The cheerful yellow unit is easy to push and maneuver, offers powerful, 12-amp suction, and even uses micro-filtration to capture dust mites, pollen, and pet dander for cleaner, healthier indoor air, whether you have allergies or not. Like other bagless models, the Maxima eliminates the expense and hassle of disposable vacuum cleaner bags, using instead an easily accessible, easily-emptied dirt cup that's transparent so you can see when it's full. On the downside, the filter needs to be cleaned often, especially if you have pets, but this is also common with other bagless models. In the case of the Eureka Maxima, there's only one filter to clean and it's easily washable, simplifying the process considerably. The Maxima also comes fully loaded with onboard tools: a crevice tool for corners and baseboards, dusting brush for upholstery and blinds, an extra-long, nested extension wand for added reach, and Eureka's unique Power Paw. This handheld attachment features a powerful brushroll to remove ground-in dirt and pet hair; its "Riser Visor" shield flips up and down to convert from vertical to horizontal cleaning on surfaces from stairs to upholstery. The addition of this feature makes the Maxima4711AZ the unit to buy if you have a lot of carpeted steps to clean.  Powerful inexpensive self-moving vacuum September 13, 2008

I bought this vacuum based on the reviews here and its very modest price. I use it once a week or more for my apartment carpets. I don't know how it takes heavy duty use. Several reviewers complained it is not very robust with heavy use. In addition to being light weight, the brushes pull it along. It really could use a brake sometimes! The on-off button would be more convenient near the top than down near the motor. The hose does easily come out of its resting place, unless you screw it in tightly! Then, I seldom have a problem. Perhaps its biggest design fault is that the exhaust air comes out the front, blowing light things out of the way of the pick up! Actually, this doesn't seem to be a big problem for me. The suction seems as powerful as my more expensive heavier Eureka Boss vacuum, which is very poweful indeed. If you want a light duty low cost bagless self-moving strong vacuum, this is, on the whole, a good choice. Just make sure you screw that hose into its socket tight, so it won't pop out.

This vacuum is absolute trash... in addition to the hose continually removing itself from the base at the brush it also constantly overheats and will not restart for up to a half hour...
It generally overheats after just a few moments and rarely can you make your way through an entire room before it shuts itself off...
I would strongly recommend buying something more expensive that actually works...
Avoid this item at all costs...
Very good vacuum for the money August 5, 2008

My old upright vacuum (bag-type model) died the other week, and I picked this up at Sam's Club for a mere $50 as a replacement. I wasn't expected it to be so good for the money or the weight. It picked up LOADS of dirt that my old machine had left in the carpet. Needless to say, I'm very impressed.
The unit is really light, and practically pulls itself along. The unit that I bought looks a little different from this picture - mine is deep red and grey plastic.
I'm only giving it 4 stars since I'm sure there are better vacuums out there with more features, etc. But ... for the money I don't think that one can do better than this.

This is a great vacuum for the money. Like others who reviewed this item I was really surprised at the amount of dirt that came out of my carpet on the first use. The only complaint I have is maybe the on/off button could be in a less congested place. I highly recommend this vacuum to anyone.
