Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
rom the beauty of the shape to its flexible strength, the Fiddle Bow Knife combines art with function. Wide serrations make it easy to cut through the crustiest bread. The beautiful bow handle serves as a guide, cutting toaster-perfect slices every time. The stainless steel blade never needs sharpening as you cut through bread, vegetables, and fruits.

1 out of 5 stars Is Amazon or the manufacturer pulling bad reviews?   May 18, 2008

I received an "invitation" from Amazon to review this product a few weeks ago. Gave it a bad review as the item was totally useless--it produced a slice of bread almost an inch thick, not the half-inch claimed by the manufacturer and some other customer reviews, plus it tore the sides of the bread as I cut it. I could do better with a dull knife and wearing a blindfold! So why are they asking me to review the same product again? I haven't checked to see if the first review I wrote ever posted, but since they are asking again I assume it was not. Perhaps I violated the rules of the "license terms set forth in [Amazon's] Conditions of Use". For me this item was a waste of money and I threw it away, since I wasn't about to spend any more money sending it back and dealing with the potential hassle of trying to get my money back. If the manufacturer is reading this they should refund my money anyway as they will never get any more business from me but I will also make certain everyone I know will know what a lousy product this is.

Completely useless if you use your left hand to slice bread. Ah, how we southpaws must live in a right-centric world.

No more oddly shaped bread (wedges) slices for me! Every slice comes out perfect and i get more slices with no waste. this bow knife is also very sharp and cuts through with little effort. Extremely pleased with this purchase.

1 out of 5 stars Not for crusty bread   February 14, 2008

This knife is lousy for cutting round and dome topped bread. The blade has a hard time cutting the crusty outside and the cutting guide does not work worth a hoot on curved loafs; the slicing guide cuts slices about 1/2 inch thick, like store white bread, to thin for crusty homemade bread. The knife seems to tear rather than slice good quality artisan bread. The wood blade holder is cracked where the rivet holds the blade, and it looks like it will fail quickly. Shipping was fast, but there was no tracking data provided, even after an E-mail request. Maybe this knife works on square loaf breads, but definitely don't buy it for artisan type breads. There is one positive however, it is a decent bagle cutter, if they're not too thick. I guess I'm just going to have to splurge on a good bread knife.

5 out of 5 stars Does the job and lasts forever!   January 3, 2008

I've owned the cherrywood version of this knife for... gosh, I don't know how long. Fifteen years, maybe. It is incredibly sharp (store it blade-down!) and really does a good job of helping you cut slices of uniform width (around 1/2" to 5/8"). The bow is quite long, which is useful when cutting boules. The points of the serrations grab into the crust rather than skidding off. The blade of mine is a little flexible, but I'm not sure that it's always been that way; it may just be that it has loosened a bit with time and hard use. In any case, it's still going strong. A very good gift for the baker in your life.

(I've recently discovered that it is perfect for uniformly slicing biscotti, too!)
