Product Description A sleek, sharp knife that does-it-all! Durable high-carbon, stainless steel blade lets you slice, dice and mince vegetables, meats and fruits with ease. Fully forged blade with full tang for balance. Lifetime warranty.
Amazon.com Review Sleek and attractive, this 7-inch Contemporary santoku knife from Calphalon complements the most contemporary kitchens, easily blending in with stainless-steel appliances and accessories. Translated as "three good things", the santoku knife is equally suited to slice, dice, and mince. Just as versatile as the chef's knife, this Asian-style blade combines the dexterity and strength of a cleaver and chef's knife into one. Constructed from one piece of high-carbon, stain-resistant, German steel, this knife is individually balanced increasing the comfort, efficiency, and strength. The blade has been hand ground to achieve maximum sharpness and designed with kulles, indentions along the blade edge that are specific to the santoku knife. These reduce the friction and prevent food from clinging to the blade. The ergonomically contoured comfort-grip handle is designed to fit all hands. Calphalon offers a lifetime warranty, recommends washing all knives by hand, and suggests always storing cutlery sets in the appropriate storage location. --Lea Werbel

Good, sturdy knife May 13, 2007 MamaN (Greenfield, IN USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I own this knife and have bought several for friends and family. It is sturdy, keeps its edge, and makes me look as if I know what I am doing :) ! The price is more reasonable that some other similar knives.
poor execution March 18, 2007 Smitty (Michigan) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
Since German steel was used to make this knife, I suspect that it will serve me well. However the craftsman, and I use the word loosely, who finished the knife had no concern for his product. The shape of the cutting edge of the knife is irregular with a flat spot interrupting the curve. It's an interesting knife and I like using it plus it's de rigueur amongst the Food Network chefs. It's hard to ignore the imperfection however.
Excellent weight, feel and sharpness July 14, 2006 J. Kernodle (Albuquerque, NM United States) My wife and I have had this knife for 2 years. It is still the first knife either of us pick out of the block when we cook - reaching right past our Henckels and Wusthofs. The blade has remained very sharp with only a honing after every other use. We can still make razor thin slices of ripe tomatoes and it's never been professionally sharpened. Of course, you should only cut on wood or plastic boards - never on glass, granite or Corian! The weight, balance and feel are perfect. The scalloped sides do the trick *sometimes*... not every Santoku works as it should and this knife is no exception. Some vegetable slices and other thin stuff can stick to the blade. It is great for most prep, though, and perfect for carving and slicing meats.
Great multi-purpose knife November 27, 2005 H. Keller 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I have had this knife (in addition to the 15 piece set) for almost a year. The blade is still very sharp and cuts tomatoes, chicken, pineapples, etc. all with ease. This is a great multipurpose knife and I use it all the time. Well weighted and a nice grip. I have found that a Santuko and a paring knife are sufficient for most of my cutting needs.
Good knives November 22, 2005 Honest Reviews (West Michigan) 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
These are decent knives. They get the job done and are much more affordable than other "discount" knives with german steel blades; and much more affordable than ceramic. I have not had an issue with sharpness, because I take care of my knives. You would be surprised how many people that complain of "dullness" use a glass cutting board or cut directly on the countertop.
