I only sharpen my knives about once or twice a year. This let's me have my blade for many years before they need any professional work done. Why/how? Simple: i use this tool.
Anytime i am about to use my knive, i take this took out and simple put it on the table vertically and slide my blade on the proper angle 3 times per side. Done, wipe both clean and put the tool away.
2 minute prepping of my knife does the following:
a) straighten the edge
b) remove tiny (microscopic) part of steel, thus micro sharpening
this could be done after everytime you use it or prior to using it and will trully help you make your knives long-lasting

This product works very well makes short work of sharpening kitchen knives to a razor edge with only a couple of storks.
A good buy but at a price.
