The bristle head is removable for washing. The handle is fully covered with silicone. The bristle head is entirely silicone. Both pieces go in the dishwasher and come out great! The handle is just the right length for most everything, but is larger in diameter than I thought it would be; so takes up more room in the drawer than I would like. Great for basting B-B-Q sauce on chicken!
