It's all very well and good that your scoop scoops ice cream efficiently. But what to do if the ice cream remains stick in the scoop? That will never happen if you are using this well designed tool. Squeeze the plastic trigger and a thin metal piece slips behind the ice cream, separating it cleanly from the scoop so that it drops large round dollops of ice cream into the waiting bowl or cone.

Push the hard plastic "trigger" on this chrome-headed scoop and a band of metal slides beneath the ice cream to neatly deposit a 2-1/4-inch rounded ball in a dish or on a cone.  Highly Disappointing July 24, 2008

Much like most of the other reviewers' experiences, the trigger mechanism in my OXO ice cream scoop broke almost immediately, as well. And then, to add insult to injury, when I kept using it despite the fact that it didn't work properly, the metal it was made from pitted/eroded horribly.
Although I've always been a fan of OXO's products and can't recall using any other OXO kitchen gadgets I've bought that I thoroughly disliked, this is definitely one to avoid.

This is your traditional ice cream scooper. I had converted to one that was the newer partial scoop. I'm back to the older type and I like it. It also has multiple uses.

The mechanism in this scoop is sheet metal. It bent after the first few scoops. I was able to bend it back into place a few times, but after that it was hopeless. We finally threw it away. This item does not live up to the OXO reputation; I hope it is not a sign of more low quality items to come.
Broke in half May 14, 2007

Pucrchased this December 22, 2006. Last night May 13, 2007 it snapped in half while scooping sherbert. Snapped in half as in the scoop part broke off the handle. Not even 6 months old, stay far away from this one.

This thing literally fell apart after only a few uses. It was cheaper than other similar ones, which is why I tried it, but I wouldn't buy it again. Even at the price, it wasn't worth it.
