1 out of 5 stars Pathetic   December 2, 2008

Bought this on sale, and glad I didn't pay full price. I used a few times and the metal cable burned nearly through (so now it's hanging by a few threads). After a few uses it stopped beeping, so now I need to run over every few minutes to check if food has reached proper temp. Also, it's not that easy to set the temp buttons. I'll stick with my digital instant-read one.

5 out of 5 stars Digital Thermometer   November 30, 2008

Just used it for the Thanksgiving turkey and it came out great. I pulled the turkey out when the temperature alarm went off, which was about 20 minutes before the recommended time and that made a big difference. To think that I have been over-cooking turkeys all these years.

1 out of 5 stars All polder thermometeres are horrible   November 27, 2008

ive had 2 different models and both have gone though 2 probes each..thats 4 probes...Im done. Im going to a different brand. In doing some research, ive come to find that this is a common issue with all models. Id rather they just charge me [...] bucks and give me life time probe replacements. Regardless, this is not a reliable product. Nothing like puttin your turkey in the oven on thanksgiving and realizing you need a new probe.

4 out of 5 stars I wouldn't roast meat without it   November 27, 2008
kschulke (Sacramento, CA)
I realized how much I've come to rely on this device over the years when my original unit broke and I attempted to replace it with more expensive units with more features. The beauty of the Polder is its simplicity. Many of the new thermometers have preset temperatures for various meats which is not very practical when different recipes for the same type of meat can call for a variety of goal temperatures. I recently ordered two of these so I can simultaneously monitor the thigh and breast temperatures on my turkey. The material covering the probe is different than what is pictured in that the newer probe has a gray rubbery coating which is recommended for up to 350 degrees. I will post a follow up review as I experiment with other meats in the coming months.

3 out of 5 stars Worked well, but connection wire can't take heat   November 1, 2008

Item worked great until I used it in my Weber grill.
With the lid closed it fried the braided metal wire that went from the probe to the unit with the temperature readout.
Maybe it was my fault, but you would think that something that is designed to work with an oven would be able to withstand high temperatures.
