Rennes electric pepper and salt mills from Peugeot are not only fine examples of contemporary design, but work effortlessly thanks to batteries, a boon for those with hand or wrist issues. Each eight-inch cylinder is constructed of 18/10 stainless steel that is brushed to a satiny finish, and features a clear acrylic viewing window. An S or P displayed above the power button differentiates the salt and pepper. The main difference between the two lies in the grinding mechanism. Peugeot pepper mills use case-hardened-steel grinding heads with two sizes of grooves; the larger grooves crack the peppercorns in half and direct them into the smaller grooves, which grind them much more finely than most mills. The grinding mechanism in Peugeot salt mills is purposefully constructed with 18/10 stainless-steel, which won't corrode from prolonged contact with the salt. The base of each mill unscrews for adding peppercorns and salt, while turn arrows indicate positioning to vary the coarseness of the grind. The Rennes mill comes in just one size and makes a striking gift, either individually or in a set. Six AAA batteries are required for operation, and are included with the mill along with an extra bulb for the light, which illuminates the grind as it sprinkles out. Care for a mill is easy: clean the exterior and inner chamber with a damp cloth; never immerse in water; avoid putting salt in the pepper mill, or grinding green or pink peppercorns by themselves (mixed with black is fine); and avoid damp types of salt (usually pink or gray) in the regular salt mill. If you do a lot of cooking this is a convenient gadget to have. Single-handed pepper grinding can be a great thing when cooking. The light, though it sounds gimmicky, is a also beneficial. Even though the peppercorn "hopper" is small, it last plenty long and is easy to refill. Drawbacks: Stainless steel grinding mechanism instead of ceramic and the grind setting is very difficult to adjust (I just found a grind I like and haven't touched it since).

Contrary to the product description, this product is not 100% stainless steel. The top part is plastic. Does not feel as durable and the activation button needs to be pressed in just the right place.
Mill works fine when you active the button in just the right place, and the light works too.
Comes with a spare bulb and is preloaded with pepper.

This is an excellent pepper grinder. I was so impressed that I purchased the Peugeot U-Select Pepper Grinder also. This one adjusts the grind of the pepper from the bottom wshere the pepper physically comes out- infinite setting. The U-Select adjusts the grind density by turning the base of the grinder- 6 settings. The pepper grind in all settings is even. The grind setting remains "true" with both Peugeot Pepper Grinders. You may use less pepper because the peppercorn is thoroughly "cracked". There is a substantially bright light at the base that comes on as you grind so that you can see the amount of pepper that you are using. have a set of 6 AAA batteries ready, because the batteries that came with this pepper grinder were very low in power. The acrylic base permits you to see how much peppercorn is in the grinder. I have used many pepper grinders throughout the years and have found Peugeot to be the very best. I would highly recomend this pepper grinder if you do not mind making the grind adjustments from underneath where the pepper exits the grinder.

I saw what I THOUGHT was the same set and Wms&Sonoma and then found these online. I bought them from Amazon since they were much cheaper. They are all plastic and arrived damaged. The clear plastic portion was broken on the salt mill and would not attach to the top portion. The pepper mill was cracked as well. They are very light weight and cheaply made. Get the real ones from the retail store. They are solid aluminum and real glass. I did. Amazon was pretty good about the return- after two phone calls to get my money credit back.

When I first saw this thing at our family Thanksgiving dinner my grandson was preparing, I thought, gee the younger generation is really getting lazy having to use a battery operated peppermill....but!!! I loved it and finally gave in and ordered my own. What a great kitchen tool. The light showing where you have pepper and how much is fantastic, I totally recommend this peppermill. It isn't really stainless it is plastic, but seems very sturdy. The grind adjustment works well and it comes with an extra light bulb which I needed immediately.
