We have an apple tree in our backyard that, about every other year, provides us with more apples than we can handle. As much as I love apple pie, apple cake and all the other great food items that contain apples, the chore of peeling hasn't been worth the effort to save the apples for our own consumption - we've always given them away. NOT ANYMORE. Thanks to the Back To Basics Apple and Potato Peeler, we saved over 80 percent of our apples this year. This device is ideal for anyone, of any age. It's easy to operate, easy to clean and does an outstanding job, making the chore a quick and simple process. It works so good, I ordered 15 more to give away as Christmas gifts this year. For the price, this apple peeler is more than a five-star item.

After using this to peel and core nearly 1 bushel of heirloom apples, I have to say I wish there were other machines designed to do this chore. The Back to Basics model worked fine with apples that were 2" in diameter or less, and had no lumps, bumps or imperfections on the surface. However, many of my apples weighed nearly 1 pound each and were too large to be peeled with this machine. Also, if there were any flaws on the surface of the apple, the blade gouged into the meat rather than just peeling the fruit. It works, but the limitations make it not as user-friendly as I would like.

I took a chance and ordered this after seeing it recommended in Women First. I was surprised to see the positive reviews on Amazon for a tool that I had seen, but suspected of being useless. I got the package and tried it immediately. Surpise! Surprise! It works perfectly, exactly as advertised. I had a soft apple available,and it peeled it, sliced it and cored it without a whimper. I am really happy with it and expect hours of use in prep for apple sauce, apple tarts, apple pies, apple cakes and just plain apple slices. Well worth the money.

This is the best tool since sliced bread! This version is even better now with the suction base that works better than the original one that you had to screw onto the counter edge. The blade takes a little adjustment at first, but since that, I haven't had an issue with it once. It cleans so easy and makes apple pies, apple crisp and potato peeling a breeze!
