One thing I hate about these stupid reviews is that people are reviewing different items than the one shown, so the reviews aren't even accurate. Many of the reviews shown here for the NX 23 gallon model are actually for some of the lesser iTouchless trash can models. What a worthless review system. Another thing that is annoying are these people claiming that the unit broke immediately. The stainless steel can is very sturdy and with reasonable care it will not dent. Of course if you kick it or throw it, I am sure it would dent. But why would you spend this much money on a high tech stylish trash can and then kick it ? The motorized plastic lid works fine. Yes the lid is plastic and I am sure you could break it if you ripped it open by hand or pulled on it very hard. But once again why ? You don't need to open it by hand... it is automatic !!!! Are these people savages ? This trash can is not made for Gorillas. Take care of your stuff and it will last a very long time. My only complaint is that it is made in China, like almost everything you buy these days. I always want to buy American. American quality is the best in the World and buying American keeps money in our own country. Unfortunately due to all of the cheap consumers out there looking to save a few cents, American products can't compete. God forbid we would have to spend a few dollars more on something if it were made in America. In the long run, we would all be better off buying American. More jobs would stay here, more money would stay in our own economy and the quality would be top notch. Ironically now that we have improved the Chinese standard of living by buying their products, young successful Chinese people buy American products. They say it is because the quality is the best. Too bad our own people can't see that.

I read other reviews before purchasing this product that said the lift mechanism was too weak to last. So far it works great and I see no reason to believe that it won't last. I use it in the kitchen where my hands are often messy or full of food scraps. Just move in front of the lid and presto, it opens. I love it! Fantastic for kitchens and I plan to order one for our master bath as well. Highly recommended.

I purchased this after using my mother's touchless, infrared trash can. First let me tell you about the great things about this product. 1. When it closes it even keeps diaper smells from getting out. 2. It's easy to clean on the outside and inside. 3. It has a shot off switch in the back. Now the negatives: 1. I have to buy trash bags that are larger than 13 gallons,otherwise they fall right in. There is this silly, quite ridiculus little spring type, wire ring that is "supposed" to keep the bag in place. Well it's fine as long as you don't put anything heavy in or drop anything in for that matter. I've had to put the bag on the outside with the lid on it to keep the bag in place; it's ugly but it works better. 2. The batteries where down really quickly, I had two weeks and already had to replace the batteries. 3. Which goes along with the benefits as well, when you have something smelly in the trash and it opens, (and it could be because it's sensitive and you walked by it) it opens and the smell is awful! It keeps the smell in, but even walking by it seems to set it off, and out comes that smell.
Overall it's a good product, but if given the option I wouldn't buy it if I knew what I know now. I'd opt for a different one with same infrared, touchless feature.
Throwing Trash Away could Never be Funner September 27, 2008

This is quite an amazing product. Me and my roommates love the trash can. Just wave the trash in front of it and poof the lid lifts (via battery power for 10,000 times) and you can plop the trash in the bag. The bag is held in this ring of sorts that keeps it in place. I havent found any problem with it, and so far havent made any mess inside of it. It still looks shiny. I may try to invest in their other products. Love it.
 Problem with Ring September 20, 2008

This is could be a nice product if the ring that holds the trash bag is sturdy. Ring is actually an open circle metal that expands. It really doesn't hold the trash bag well. A "ring" of thin metal wire (as thin as the wire on one's cellphone charger). I think the "ring" placed on one's finger is even thicker!
Problem:
1st: Bag doesn't have enough space to enclose the ring.
2nd: Ring slips out from the space provided for the ring inside the can.
If bottom of trash is already heavy or one pushes trash hard, example, trying to fit the trash inside the can or pushing stuff inside for the extra space, it falls off so when the time for you to pull the trash bag out for replacement a lot of your trash ends up not inside the bag itself. Really messy! You also end up cleaning the inside of the can for any mess or residue that came in contact with the can. Not a pleasant job to do and a pleasant sight to see. Added work. They should have placed a thick ring, like the square iTouchless can or NZ's trash cans. This may be made of plastic but at least the bag is secured and doesn't fall off.
