Product Description short description
Amazon.com Review Hot off the Metrokane lineup, the L-Press is a very snazzy manual juicer designed for the modern home. Rather than building on the 1950s look of its Mighty OJ juicer, Metrokane's designers created this one with a sleek, curved-L body made of hardened steel reinforced with die-cast aluminum. Like the Mighty OJ, the L-Press uses a rack-and-pinion gear system, but interlocked with it on this model is a lever handle that rotates in a 500-degree arc, impressively creating up to 1,000 pounds of leverage. As a result, limes, lemons, oranges, and grapefruits release every bit of juice with the least amount of effort. Another nifty feature of the L-Press is the rubberized grip on both the lever and stabilizing arm, available in either a neutral gray or a dazzling traffic-cone orange. A 25-ounce stainless-steel pitcher, integral to the design, catches all the fresh-squeezed juice and features a pouring spout. After use, the removable stainless-steel strainer and cone wash up easily. The L-Press makes a fantastic gift for the aficionado of good design-and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Metrokane covers the juicer with a lifetime warranty on moving parts. --Ann Bieri

metrokane L press Juicer review January 13, 2008 Gerald A. Redman (Brooksville FL USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This juicer is built very well, and uses very good material in it's manufacture. It's value ends there! In order to squeeze the orange, you have to try to balance the flat surface of an inverted orange half on the top of rounded cone, then pull the handle down to press the juice out. This is very, very difficult. The orange tips to one side or another, and if you attempt to press, the bulk of the orange, being off to one side, causes the descending part of the press to be forced off to one side and missing most of the orange and interfering with the downward path of the unit. If you finally get the orange to balance in the center, (by holding it in place with your fingers, exposing the fingers to injury as the top descends),and press the top part down to it's maximum pressure, it only extracts juice from the middle of the fruit, leaving unsqueezed orange all around the rim of the fruit. I was getting hardly 2/3 of the volume of juice from the Metrokane L that I get on an electric juicer. I commend Amazon for their liberal return policy, and will definitely continue to do business with Amazon!
Looks great, performs poorly. January 6, 2008 R. Kirk (hawaii, usa) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I juice a lot of oranges on a regular basis. I have tried manual reamers and electric juicers. I was excited to use one which could apply a lot of pressure quickly and with less effort. The only problem, and it is a big one, is that the juicer leaves a large portion of the flesh unsqueezed. When I use an electric juicer/reamer, there is very little flesh left. With this juicer, the top does not come down far enough onto the removable cup cap to squeeze the whole orange. As a result, you will waste about 25% of the juice. This problem is so obvious that I can take the juiced halves and squeeze more juice out with my bare hand. I will be seeking a refund. I am very disappointed. I can't believe this product is on the market with such poor performance.
Fantastic! June 29, 2007 dd (Seattle) Although I've only used it once, I feel compelled to recommend this product. It juices lemons and limes so quickly and almost as good as a reamer or the kitchenaid juicer attachment that I was using previously. Only con so far is that bits of unpressed pulp get pushed towards the rim of the lemon/lime so that it does miss (what I would consider) a negligible amount of juice.
