Good heavy duty pot. Made lots of soup with it and cooked pasta. The only improvement I would ask is for more drainage in the pasta insert. Other than that it's a great addition to the kitchen. i expect this pot to be around for quite a while.

The pot heats well but the holes in the pasta insert are too big and allows a great deal of pasta through to the pot. This defeats the purpose of a pasta pot. The insert also gives the pasta a metalic taste. The insert is highly polished on the outside but not on the inside. This could be the reason for the metallic taste.

I agree completely with Steve B's review. The pot is fine and up to Calphalon expectations. However, Amazon continues its practice of false or misleading pricing information. The list price from Calphalon is 99, not the 210 displayed with the product. So, once again, Amazon attempts to lure customers with false advertising. At least I made my purchase knowing the actual cost.

Like all my other Calphalon cookware, this one is great. In addition to the pasta insert, I bought a steamer insert which produces fantastic veggies.
The pan also works great for stew and chili.

Complaints about false advertising aside (and by no means is Amazon the only store doing this), this is a really high quality pasta pot. I read a lot of reviews in my search for the ideal pasta pot, eventually deciding on this one because of the size. I generally cook for 2 people, and on rare occasions 4-6 for dinner parties, so I didn't particularly want an 8 or 12 quart pot. At six and a half quarts this is an unusual size for a pasta pot. The materials and construction are excellent, it's sturdy and attractive, and it heats up fast. It's a disadvantage the pot can't be cleaned in the dishwasher. While reading reviews of other makers' pasta pots however, those that were dishwasher compatible had negative reviews because of the all-important clearance between the bottom of the pan and the pasta insert - in the Cuisinart Chef's stainless this was reported to be 2 inches, requiring a lot of water to be added before reaching the pasta. In this pan, there's less than a quarter of an inch of clearance, the fit is very snug so no wasted energy heating copious amounts of water. This is also my first Calphalon One peice, but so far I've only used it for cooking pasta, at which it excels.
This is a high quality pot that's ideal for everyday preparation of 2-4 person meals.
