No More Measuring Cups March 12, 2010

Thanks to my new kitchen scale, I don't need to use my measuring cups anymore. I love the fact this scale uses an alkaline battery and has a tare function. It is small and lightweight so it is easy to take out and store.

I love this little scale. It doesn't take up too much space on the counter but it is HUGE in helping me eat healthy!!! It's very accurate (i.e. if you take something off and then put it back on, it always weighs the same - very consistent) and it can accommodate really heavy stuff - I make huge two-person entree-sized salads with chicken and all kinds of stuff, and I've never maxed out the capacity.
I used to measure out yogurt, cottage cheese, that kind of thing in a measuring cup, then dump it into a bowl - now I can skip getting the measuring cup dirty by simply putting the bowl on the scale, zeroing it, and then adding yogurt until I reach 227 grams (which it says on the yogurt jar is the weight of one cup). Love getting fewer dishes dirty! Same goes for a tablespoon of peanut butter - no need to get a tablespoon dirty, I can just put my toast on a plate, but the plate on the scale, zero the scale, then eyeball a tablespoon on the knife and add a little more or less until the scale weighs 16 grams.
Can't say enough about how much I love using this simple little scale. It gets the job done!

At first, this worked fine. Less than a year after I bought it, it started mysteriously turning on by itself. The first few times, I thought I had just forgotten to turn it off, but it soon became clear that it would just turn on by itself. Then it indicated that it needed new batteries, so I replaced them. This solved the problem for about 3 days. Then it went back to randomly turning itself on for no good reason. Then today, it just stopped working. Wouldn't turn on. It's not the batteries. It just doesn't work any more.
Save your money. Don't buy this piece of junk.

This is my second EatSmart product and because of the high-quality of both of them, I now have full confidence in their products and will look into what else they make.
I honestly have no cons to list with this product, and that is a rarity. Usually there is something about a product that I wish was different, but I like this scale completely as is. It's nice-looking, lightweight and small so it's space-saving and doesn't take up half my counter. It's not cluttered up with useless features/fuctions in an attempt to make it look like it's more than what it is, it has just what I need and is accurate and reliable. I really appreciate that it takes regular batteries.
