Very functional, stylish, easy to clean, and super easy to use! March 2, 2010 Candice D This is my first food scale and I am soooo glad I bought it because I did not realize how much food I was not eating! I have recently started changing my eating habits and really needed to know how much food I was eating at each serving. Before my scale, I was just kind of "eyeing" it to be safe I didn't want to overdo it. When the scale came (on time#, I started measuring out my portions and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could have used a little more in the past, lol. Now I use my scale for just about everything that requires measurement. I also live in the UK temporarily so most of the things I buy are in kg or grams and this scale has helped me figure out how much that is without ruining the recipe. I love the fact that you can switch to either measuring type with just a touch of a button, ya it may not be so convenient that it is on the bottom of the scale, but it really is not that big of a deal, especially when you are not switching often or if you only measure all the things that are in the same measurement category at the same time before switching it. Also the touch part of it is very sensitive and it works FANTASTIC. I love that you dont have to push hard to get it to turn on, plus the auto off feature is an excellent add since there have been times I had been distracted and walked away with food still on it and forgot to turn it off, but to my surprise when I got back it was off and I could just start over and not worry about replacing the batteries #which are still the ones it came with#. This is a very functional, easy to clean #no crevices for food to fall into#, easy to store #not on its side as recommended by manufacturer) without taking up too much space and stylish food scale. I highly recommend it!
Pleased February 24, 2010 JuJu (Detroit, MI) Hi,
I have found this scale to be consistant, accurate and very useful. I like the different weight measurements available. It looks nice and doesn't take up much space on the counter. I would recommend.
Form + Function = Awesome February 24, 2010 jsundram (Cambridge, MA) I've used this scale a lot for 2 months, and it is great. It works perfectly, even on a not-perfectly-level surface. And it looks good. It's flat surface makes it easy to clean, and the Tare button makes it easy to measure pretty much anything in a bowl, etc.
The price is very reasonable for what you get. Highly recommended.
Easy to use February 23, 2010 Sherry S. (San Marcos, CA) I love this scale! It is easy to use, easy to store, and easy to change from English to Metric measurements. I was able to weigh all my meat from Costco in just a couple of minutes! It totally takes the guess work out of how much chicken to use in a recipe (how many chicken breasts weigh 2lbs.?), or how much does this pork roast weigh?. I'll say it again, I love this scale.
OK scale February 3, 2010 RangerGAP (Hooterville) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have now owned this scale for about a year. I had previously owned a different scale and thought I wanted one with a larger capacity so I purchased this one. I use the scale for a number of tasks, but primarily for cooking. I need a scale that will accurately weigh amounts as small as one gram.
Initially I had some major difficulties taring the scale. The touch of a "butterfly" is not an exaggeration. Having to be that careful to tare a scale is not an advantageous feature. I once spilled some flour on the screen and gently wiping it off with a paper towel tared the scale. I have had the scale tare at undesirable times. It does this when I am not being very fastidious with how I handle the scale. The scale doesn't randomly tare. It only tares at undesirable times when I inadvertently touch the tare button. The on/off button is also as sensitive.
I have also experienced aberrations with the unit. It would randomly turn on and off etc. I ascertained the batteries would become dislodged and this caused the scale to randomly turn on and off. I placed a thin piece of cardboard between the battery and door of the battery compartment and this resolved the issue.
Another aberration is that if I am weighing extremely light substances, eg: white pepper, the scale will not display accurately. It will "stick." Once when I needed two grams of pepper, I carefully dispensed it into a container. After the scale finally read 2 grams, the amount looked awfully large. Subsequent weighing indicated the amount was actually 6 grams. This wouldn't be a problem if I used a separate container to weigh my ingredients, but I like to add an ingredient, tare and add the next ingredient into the same container.
My unit is off by 1/2 gram. It weighs 1/2 gram light so if I need 2 grams, it will display 2 grams, however the actually weight is 2 1/2 grams. How do I know this? I also have a scale that measures in Grains. It is accurate to +/- .1 of a grain and there are 7000 grains in a pound.
For larger quantities the scale works great, but you still have to be careful not to accidental come in contact with the tare button with an ingredient, object or your finger. Being able to weigh large quantities is one its best feature.
I would not buy this unit again because of the sensitivity of the on/off and tare buttons. I have since bought another scale that works better for me.
