Perfect for use at home or on trips, this mechanical diet scale from Salter is lightweight, stores compactly with a snap-on lid inside its own weighing container, and is absolutely easy to use. The scale measures items weighing up to 16 ounces (500 g) in precise 1/4-ounce (5 g) increments, making it ideal for dietary or baby needs. Made of durable plastic that wipes clean, the scale features a 2-3/4-inch round dial and a small platform that snugly weds the underside of the weighing container. After the container is positioned in place, simply turn the knob until the dial needle registers zero. Add and weigh food as needed, resetting to zero after each ingredient if desired. If acidic or strongly colored foods such as oranges, curries, and tomatoes are to be weighed, it's a good idea to line the container with plastic wrap first. The container is dishwasher-safe, but should not be used in a microwave. The scale itself measures 3 by 2-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches, while the container (and thus the storage size) measures 4-3/4 by 3-3/4 by 3 inches. Replaced a digital kitchen scale (which broke after less than a year) with this product. The scale platform is extremely small, making balancing items on it a chore - but the large scale display makes it easy to read even with bulky items piled on top. Both the size and the 16 oz maximum make using the included storage container (to hold items to be weighed) a necessity, which means extra cleaning. The zero adjustment is useful and easy to use (for a mechanical scale).
The major factor, for me, having spent 4x as much on a digital scale that broke in just a few months, is that I expect this mechanical scale will not give out until the spring does.
If one could find a piece of lightweight, food-safe, firm plastic, and glue it to the scale platform, this might increase the utility of the scale by allowing one to weigh bulkier items.

This scale is perfect for weighing small amounts of food. I needed it to weigh portions of things like nuts, chicken, vegetables, etc. It's great for doing this, and super easy to clean. Great price, great value!

Nothing fancy, just perfect for what I need it for. I bought it for weighing foods while on my diet, but now I'm using it for accurate measurements on lots of things. It's more accurate to measure by weight than measuring cups. I love this thing. The size is perfect, I can put it away in a cabinet when not in use. It's very light weight. The container is used to store the scale, and it comes with a lid so you can use it for food storage if you wanted.
If you just need something simple to get the job done, I highly recommend it. If you want a fancy gadget, you will be sorely disappointed.

I was looking for an inexpensive small scale to weigh my meat and fruit servings in. The scale is perfect for my small needs. I joined Weight Watchers in October and I needed a scale to keep track. I would suggest the scale to anyone that needs a little help when the food package tells you a serving is in ounces.
