The Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator is a simple device. You simply pour your wine slowly into the top reservoir and make sure when you are holding it you don't cover the small holes on the side. You can aerate into a decanter or into a glass. See? Simple.
But does it work? I wondered myself but after reading the reviews, I bought it and started the testing. I tested a range of red wine varietals from inexpensive to moderate, and it worked on all of them. I even tested a $2 Chuck, which it did help, but actually did the least for in all my tests. I immediately noticed the aromas were more mellow and smooth, the mouth feel was softer. None of these were hard to determine. The change was night and day for almost every bottle. So I was convinced. But in the interest of science and the possibility I am crazy, I thought more testing was in order. (Ok, it was an excuse to drink more wine with friends..)
So the second round was with wine aficionados and I poured all glasses out of sight and let the tasting begin. Each and every person was amazed at how well it worked, even though they were a skeptical bunch.
Bottom line: It works, it is ridiculously easy to use and if you are interested to have you red wines taste their best, buy yourself a Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator.

Wow! Can't believe something this pretty can actually perform an important function! You have to take the test before you're hooked. We tried one at a wine party - the before taste of wine - and after using the aerator - it does make a difference! Enjoy!

This was purchased as a Christmas present for a friend and I can tell you after we all tried it out, I'm sure I'll be buying more in 2009 for Birthday presents.
You truly can tell a difference after your wine has been poured thru the Vintui.

I purchased several of the Vinturi Wine Aerators for Christmas gifts after seeing one used at one of our 'upper end' steak houses. All of the recipients are very pleased with the results of the Vinturi. They no longer have to wait for their wine to breathe. The Vinturi is easy to use and clean. I would most assuredly purchase more of these areators for any person who enjoys the pleasure of a good wine!

...especially if they like the reds. As you will note from the other reviews here, the Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator really does what it claims, and does it well. The purveyors at my local liquor store were showcasing this little device and I was surprised when I could actually tell the difference. It really opens of the flavor of a wine, giving it a better mouth feel and brings out the aromas. It also give the wine a smoother finish, particularly with tannic reds.
It would have garnered five stars from me but for some niggles. You have to be careful when pouring to do so at the proper rate to keep it full but not overflowing, allowing it to do it's magic. It also drips a bit after pouring so it and its little stand need cleaning afterwards. No biggie though. At $40 it isn't cheap, but just from holding it you can tell it is a quality product, and with this sleek little gadget, you won't need to decant your wine ever again.
